Adams State All-American Brianna Robles, the reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor champion in the women's 3,000 meters and distance medley relay, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Championships on March 11-12 at Pittsburg State in Kansas. Robles elevated to No. 3 in Division 2 history on an oversized track and No. 4 on all indoor surfaces in the 5,000 meters Feb. 11 by clocking 16:03.76 at the Husky Classic at the Dempsey facility in Washington. She analyzes Adams State, the defending Division 2 cross country champions, qualifying a pair of competitors in the mile, three athletes in the 5,000 as well as having six entries in the 3,000, along with the DMR in the Grizzlies' pursuit of securing a podium finish one year after only Robles and Stephanie Cotter represented the team at the indoor championship meet at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Robles revisits her seventh-place finish in the 5,000 last season and her first All-America recognition, and how that provided confidence, which she has built on by earning fifth in the 10,000 at the Division 2 outdoor final in May at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., and securing sixth Nov. 20 at the cross country championship meet in Saint Leo, Fla. She speaks about the potential of winning the 5,000 title and her ambition to join Caroline Kurgat of Alaska Anchorage as the only female competitors in Division 2 indoor history to eclipse the 16-minute barrier. Robles shares her pride in younger teammates Emily Schoellkopf, Morgan Hykes, Fiona Hawkins and Ava O'Connor qualifying for their first Division 2 indoor championships and how their development has set up Adams State to become even stronger during the spring outdoor season, in addition to the guidance of veteran coach Damon Martin peaking the Grizzlies for the finals. She examines the depth of the 3,000 field, and her decision to allow Hykes to take her place on the DMR, in Robles' pursuit of challenging for both individual titles. Robles also explains her process of writing the meet recaps for the track and field program for the Adams State Sports Information department, and the impressive potential of the RMAC distance runners at the Division 2 Indoor Championships.
